Austin R. Bauersmith

Austin R. Bauersmith grew up in Montgomery County, PA, and is a registered patent attorney and associate at Ryder, Mazzeo & Konieczny LLC. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 2017, where he studied Physics, and later earned his J.D. at Wake Forest University School of Law in 2020.

Austin’s technical experience ranges the fields of biotechnology, software, and machine learning. He was an undergraduate research assistant at the Biotech Place in Winston Salem, NC, where he collected and analyze data on DNA-protein complexes using fabricated solid-state nanopores. During law school, Austin completed an internship at Seal Software, a contract analytics company now owned by DocuSign. There, he developed models with the company’s user-driven machine learning platform to train the system to recognize legal text and subject matter contained in thousands of documents. As an attorney, Austin focuses on trademark and patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation. He is particularly interested in Section 101 patentability issues, as well as the multitude of legal issues arising out of inventions that utilize artificial intelligence.

In his spare time, Austin follows his beloved Philadelphia sports teams and plays golf. He also sits on the selection committee for the Jordan Bayer Memorial Scholarship, which he helped establish at Wake Forest in 2016.
